The Hornet is often the second single seat glider type for our students. It is suitable for cross country flights, with a slightly higher wing loading than the Astir CS.
It has quite a light control feel, and its elevator control has a parallellogram action to reduce pilot induced oscillations due to the light "feel". The Hornet has automatic trim.
The cockpit is comfortable, with a fairly upright seating position. Our Hornet has been fitted with a Mosquito single piece canopy. This makes the visibility better than a standard Hornet - there's no canopy bow just in front of the pilot.
Performance
At 334 kg: minimum sink speed is 43 knots, best glide is 1:38
at 51 knots
At 420 kg: minimum sink speed is 48 kts and best glide speed is 56 knots
With 4 knot thermals, an average cross country speed of 82 km/hour is predicted by MacCready theory
