Our Fleet

Waikerie Gliding Club's fleet allows glider pilots a wide choice. Most of the gliders are owned by the club, with a few being cross hired from their owners. The prices for booking are on our Sailplane Hire page.

All our gliders...

All our gliders are in good condition, with a high standard of airworthiness. This is not a surprise, since we have our own Maintenance Workshop next door, and the Gliding Club's operation is run by the South Australian RTO/A.
(Mark Morgan, who manages the flying operations, is also the Gliding Federation of Australia's Regional Technical Officer for Airworthiness for South Australia.)

All our gliders have as standard equipment:

  • Soaring instruments - most of our gliders are fitted with Borgelt B20 audio vario and speed director, or better. Many of the gliders have glide computers, some have flight loggers
  • Basic flying instruments (of course!) - airspeed indicator, altimeter, compass
  • VHF air band radio
  • Ground handling gear, canopy cover

Our fleet allows for pilots of any experience level

Training is done in our Twin Astirs. Our new glider pilots fly this type until they go solo. The Twins are also used for check flights, cross country and some advanced training. Usually, the first single seater our students fly is the Astir CS, or the similar Astir CS 77.

These gliders are also suitable for early cross country flights, as are the Hornet and LS 1f which are available after the pilot has had a few flights in the Astirs. Experience requirements for our gliders are listed on the Sailplane Hire page.

Some of our most experienced pilots keep coming back to fly the LS 1f. There must be something good about it!

Seasoned cross country pilots will appreciate the Discus b and LS 4a. Also, the LS 6b racing class glider is a good choice for a pilot wanting to fly a flapped glider for the first time.

New! The Discus 2T has arrived and is available. It is a well equipped, up-to-date standard class cross country machine. Also, it has a sustainer motor, so you will get home every time.

The pleasure of flying the Duo Discus just has to be experienced. You should see the smiles when people fly it the first time! Its performance also allows advanced two-seat cross country flying.
