Grob Twin Astir: VH-IKU, VH-IKO
Two seat training and cross country glider

The Twin Astirs are comfortable, well equipped training gliders. Once a student can fly the Twin, he or she can advance easily to fibreglass single seaters.
Twin Astirs are one of the few mid-class two seat glider types that have retractable undercarriage and carry water ballast.

They are of tail wheel configuration, the same as most solo gliders, and have an average glide ratio of 37:1.
The Twin's performance is good enough for cross country training with an instructor. They are equipped with the same instruments as our single seat gliders - Borgelt B20 audio vario, speed director and glide computer.

Waikerie Twin Astirs hold the following Australian records:

Speed Triangles:
100 km at 147.45 km/h  03/02/1981, H Dunn & W McIntosh, VH-IKU
300 km at 129.67 km/h  10/12/1980, H Dunn & A McTainsh, VH-IKU

Performance
At 505 kg: minimum sink speed is 41 knots, best glide is 1:37 at 52 knots
At 650 kg: minimum sink speed is 49 knots, best glide speed is 60 knots
